Food on Foot: Distribute Meals, Clothing, Other Necessities

Food on Foot is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting unhoused and low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles. Their weekly programs provide nutritious meals, clothing and other necessities to the community and other programs focus on teaching life-skills and supporting efforts for full-time employment and permanent housing. Since it’s inception in 1996, Food on Foot’s weekly Sunday Meal Program and Jobs & Housing program have taken place every single Sunday in the back parking lot of the LGBTCenter in Hollywood, rain or shine.

Food on Foot distributes nutritious meals, fresh produce, and clothing to 280+ unhoused and low-income neighbors every Sunday in Hollywood. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Curriculum Development & Workshop Instruction: One Sunday every other month (90 minutes to 2 hours) on a rolling schedule to assist in the facilitation of workshops based on the volunteer's skillset and group needs. Some of the current topics needed are understanding credit, financial literacy, stress & time management, managing anxiety, money & budgeting basics, as well as artistic and creative outlets such as art, sewing, sculpting, drawing, etc. Topics will tie into something to help the program participants with their journey from homelessness to housing and sustainable employment.

  • Sunday Serving Resource Transportation Support: Sunday mornings from 7:30am - 9:30am to help load and transport our resources and goods from our warehouse on the corner of Pico & Fairfax to the LGBT Center on Schrader to unload.

  • Warehouse Help: Volunteers are needed once a week and help to pull our resources for our Sunday Serving program and help organize any incoming inventory, usually on Fridays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm, but this is open to the volunteer's schedule as well.
