Tonight, 1 in 4 households in LA County won't be sure there's enough food on the table tomorrow. That's not a distant statistic. It's your neighbor, your child's classmate, the person behind you in line at the grocery store.
If you've ever wondered "Where can I volunteer to help make sure people don't go to bed hungry?" or "How can I make a real difference for families struggling to put food on the table?" This is where you start.

Food Pantries
This is where the real action happens: boxes packed, produce sorted, shelves stocked, food handed straight to the neighbor who needed it today. It's fast-paced, hands-on, and deeply satisfying, the kind of shift where you can see exactly what your effort accomplished by the time you leave. Come be part of the team that makes it happen..
Neighborhood Food Donations/PORCH Communities
Turn your own block into a food lifeline, just for a few hours of your time a month.You will be taught and supported on how to set up a monthly donation collection right where you live, and get to know your neighbors doing it alongside you. PORCH Communities will walk you through the whole process, and provide to you the materials that you will need, so you're never figuring it out alone. You choose the schedule. You make the difference. And yes, you'll probably become the most popular person on your street.
Gleaning
Head out with a team of volunteers to rescue surplus food from farms, farmers markets, and grocery stores, food that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
You'll see firsthand how much good, edible food goes to waste, and you'll be part of turning it into meals for neighbors who need it instead. It's hands-on, it's outdoors, and you'll be doing it alongside people who care about the same things you do.
Love to garden? Bring your green thumb and join a team growing fresh, healthy produce for Angelenos who need it. You'll dig in the earth, watch what you planted grow, and eventually harvest it, knowing it's headed straight to a neighbor's table. Few volunteer roles let you see your effort take root quite this literally.
Meal Preparation, Service or Delivery
Cook alongside others, serve a warm meal, or deliver food to a neighbor who can't get out. You'll be right in the middle of it, the connection, the kindness, the small moments that make a real difference in someone's day. It's simple work with an immediate, human impact.
Community Refrigerators
Adopt a refrigerator, or just stop by and drop off food whenever you can. These fridges sit right in the community, often outside a local store, so neighbors can take what they need, no questions asked. Think of it like a neighborhood book exchange, except what you're sharing is a meal. Small effort, real impact, right where you live.
